The Olympic flame was extinguished today in Paris and the route disrupted. Originally, I was against the boycot of the games in China because the people of Tibet would suffer the consequences, but I’ve since changed my mind. The protests in England and now Paris are alerting the world to the abuses by the Chinese government – not just to the people of Tibet, but to the general population.
There was a story about Chinese investment in the U.S. on 60 minutes last night. They have 100s of billions of dollars to invest and are investing heavily in our financial markets while their environment is being degraded by industrial pollution to the point where the air is unhealthy to breath and the water unsafe to drink.
On Wednesday, the Olympic torch comes to the U.S. While there will be some protests, we are pretty apathetic to the problems of other people and I’d be surprised if the route is disrupted. Liberals will probably turn it into an anti-Israel rally.
